A few old tree trunks, a couple o bricks, some fencing wire, a few barrows of nice loose mulch with a handful o goodies mixed through and a bag full of slightly pongy but nicely sprouting old spuds from the pantry and we have ourselves a great little potato patch (or
kartoffelgarten in German). This set up for potato cultivation is known as a container garden and uses what is called the heaping method (which is why the soil bed appears to be quite low in the structure at this point) where fresh, loose mulch/soil mix is piled around the growing potato plants at 3-5 week intervals over the course of their cycle. This lengthens the main stem of the plant and in-turn yields more produce, which means i'll be the guy with the potato salad at the barbie this summer. YUM!
